Dutch football club FC Volendam’s Business Club visits Ter Haak

Amsterdam, 26 October - Touring places normally inaccessible to the public before taking a tugboat to IJmuiden and watching their team beat HFC Haarlem. Fifty members of the FC Volendam Business Club had a great day visiting the Ter Haak Group on Friday 23 October.

The Business Club was invited for the visit as Ter Haak subsidiary Container Company Amsterdam (CCA) has been a sponsor of Volendam football club for years. The sponsoring arrangement was established for a combination of business and sporting reasons. FC Volendam is a no-nonsense club in line with the character of the Ter Haak Group, and we were delighted to welcome our guests and allow them an exclusive look behind the scenes.

After showing a film about the port and a brief presentation of the activities of the Ter Haak Group and CCA, the Business Club members were guided through areas that are usually prohibited to the public. The tour over the grounds offered a superb overview of the transport, storage and transhipment of goods. A gigantic crane unloading the conro vessel Grande Africa of Grimaldi Lines made for an impressive sight. And the sense of excitement was reinforced by the wide range of fascinating activities going on at various points around the premises.

Tug service B. Iskes & Zn. provided two 80-ton tugboats (the Arion and the Triton) to transport the Volendam visitors from the Amerika Harbour to IJmuiden. Taking the swell of the waves in his stride, founder Ben Iskes proudly explained the operations of the port tug service in the Amsterdam-North Sea Canal area. After arriving in the Haringhaven in IJmuiden the group was taken to the stadium of HFC Haarlem football club where FC Volendam was due to play that evening. Voldendam’s victory, their third on the bounce, served as the perfect end to an excellent day. Milli Lagerweij
