Creating a container village in Angola
Amsterdam, 6 January 2010 - Container Company Amsterdam (CCA), part of the Ter Haak Group, has been contracted to supply almost 250 containers for transport, storage and accommodation to Heerema Marine Contractors in Leiden (NL). Heerema constructs offshore installations along the West African coast.
Their principal is building an installation in a large oil field off the coast of Angola, where it will be using various types of pipelines for oil and gas extraction. These pipelines are placed on the seabed to connect the mainland to the offshore facility above water. In an industry that still requires a pioneering spirit, Heerema is responsible for all elements of this mega-project, from the design and installation of the pipeline to the education and training of the Angolan employees.
The scarcity of materials and expertise in Angola offers many opportunities to Dutch companies with experience in offshore, transport and storage. With its capacity for short-term customised deliveries, CCA can offer clear added value in this respect.
While a significant proportion of the containers will be used for the transport and storage of equipment and materials, around 160 20 ft. cabin containers fully furnished as offices with changing rooms. An air conditioned cafeteria furnished with industrial kitchen equipment is also being provided for the scores of Heerema employees who will use these containers.
CCA has been supplying containers to Heerema for a wide range of global projects for many years. Both Heerema and CCA’s mother company the Ter Haak Group are family businesses that employ many long-term and proactive personnel who have a special bond with their companies and products. Combined with Heerema’s requirement for bespoke products and CCA’s enjoyment of a challenge, this has resulted in an excellent working relationship. - Milli Lagerweij
